Worldwide building materials company Saint-Gobain helped The Philadelphia Chapter of Rebuilding Together hold a three-day community rebuilding effort at 62nd Street and Lancaster Avenue. 

The Valley Forge, Pa.-based company sent several employee volunteers to the site.

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics said its Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound and Sealant is now available at Menards stores.

Previously, Green Glue products were obtainable only through the Green Glue website or a network of specialty acoustic distributors. Now the products are available for contractors, DIYers and home theater enthusiasts to purchase directly in the building materials section of 232 Menards stores in the Midwest, the company said.

Saint-Gobain, the world’s largest building materials company, has announced the appointment of John Crowe as president and CEO of Saint-Gobain Corp. in North America and CertainTeed Corp.

According to Crowe, the move comes at a time when the company is investing in research and innovation across all its businesses to improve buildings, making them more efficient, durable, sustainable and healthy.

Buffalo Business First has reported that Saint-Gobain Adfors earlier this month began making in New York drywall tape that it used to make in China.

The Albion, N.Y., facility is Saint-Gobain's North American headquarters. The newspaper reported that the cause of the shift in location was a need to better control aesthetics and packaging, which are important purchase factors in the Japanese market, the destination of the products.

Peter Dachowski, president and CEO of CertainTeed, has announced his retirement, effective Aug. 31, 2011.

He will be succeeded by John Crowe, who is currently the president of Saint-Gobain’s global abrasives business. Crowe has held numerous leadership positions within the Saint-Gobain group of companies over the past 30 years. As the president of Saint-Gobain Abrasives, he is responsible for 13,000 employees and approximately 75 manufacturing facilities in 24 countries.

Global construction supplier and retailer Saint-Gobain has closed its La Maison building material stores in China, according to a report in Agence France Presse. 

La Maison's 86,000-sq.-ft. flagship store and six design showrooms in Shanghai stopped operating during the week of March 10, a company spokesman told AFP. He blamed recent measures by the Chinese government to cool the housing boom and the change in construction practices, which are building more “finished” properties outfitted with electrical, plumbing and other “pre-decorations.”

Knauf Insulation, the Shelbyville, Ind.-based manufacturer, has filed a patent infringement action against CertainTeed Corp. in an Indiana federal court. According to the lawsuit, Knauf Insulation mineral wool is made with ECOSE technology, a sustainable binder technology based on rapidly renewable bio-based materials rather than petroleum-based chemicals commonly used in traditional fiberglass insulation products.

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics (SGPPL) has announced the appointment of Adam Burnett to the position of business development manager, acoustics for the company’s Green Glue Noiseproofing product.

Burnett will be responsible for the production of the Green Glue Noiseproofing System and developing new applications and distribution channels for its technologies.

Adrien Pilon was named general manager of distribution, where he assumes responsibility for Royal’s Boncor and residential divisions. Prior to joining Royal Group, he was VP and general manager with Emco Corp.

Owens Corning has named two new executives to lead its building materials and composites divisions, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Chuck Dana has been appointed group president, building materials, and Arnaud Genis has been appointed group president, composites, succeeding Dana. These changes are effective immediately.

Karel Czanderna, currently the group president of the building materials group, has resigned and will leave the company following a transition period.
