S.C. hardware store to reopen

Simpson Pinewood Hardware held its grand opening on Aug. 22 after a soft opening last month, according to an article in The Item. 

Now operated by the third generation of the Simpson family, the Sumter, S.C., store closed in 2011 but has since undergone a remodeling and expansion. It will now carry lawn and garden and lumber.

Simpson makes acquisition in North Carolina

Pleasanton, Calif.-based Simpson Manufacturing Co. subsidiary Simpson Strong-Tie agreed to acquire substantially all of the assets of North Carolina-based Automatic Stamping.

The price tag was an aggregate of $41.4 million, plus the value at closing of inventory and accounts receivable.

Simpson to enter component industry

Simpson Strong-Tie will begin supplying software systems and truss plates to the U.S. component industry, the company has announced. Mike Bugbee, a 30-year veteran of the company, will lead the new division.

Simpson Strong-Tie has already developed many products that have helped expand the innovative use of trusses in light-frame design, so offering software and truss plates is a natural progression for the company, it said.

Simpson Strong-Tie has announced that it will now be offering decking software solutions from Feeney Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-quality, innovative architectural and garden products. Feeney has joined Simpson’s DeckTools deck sales and design software partners’ library with some of its most popular products: CableRail railing infill cables, Lightline door canopies, and two styles of wall-mounted cable and rod trellises.

Former Shopper’s Hardware owner dies

Warren Simpson, retired owner of the former Shopper's Hardware, died Thursday, according to the Portland Press Herald. He was 94.

According to the article, Simpson began working at Shopper's Hardware in South Portland in 1955. He purchased the store from the owners 10 years later, and joined True Value in 1977. Simpson sold the business to his son Thomas Simpson to 1980.
