Lenexa, Kan.-based Westlake Hardware's Zombie Preparedness Center makes zombies the centerpiece of a multimedia marketing campaign that's really aimed at humans. 

The company's Zombie Preparedness Center has about 15,000 fans on Facebook, and it includes some homemade marketing videos disguised as breaking news about zombie protests and zombie-friendly shopping. 

The campaign's website allows the user to click on one of two tabs: "I am human" or "Me zombie."

September housing starts showed double-digit increases compared with both last year and last month, according to data released this morning by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Housing starts came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 658,000, up 15% from the August rate of 572,000, and up 10.2% compared with September 2010.

The figure of 658,000 was the highest total housing-starts figure since April 2010, when starts stood at 687,000.

Atlanta-based Southern Casual Living bought the patio umbrella division of Southern Sales & Marketing.

"We see the umbrella market moving to more of a China 'factory direct' business model, so I sold this division," said Ken Harbaugh, majority shareholder of Southern Sales. " Some of the people moving over to the new company have been longtime associates with our company, and I wish them all the best.  They know that I am available to help them at any time.”
