Norfolk, Neb.-based MP Global Products, a manufacturer of fiber acoustic underlayments, introduced VersaStick premium "green" pressure sensitive flooring adhesive.

The no-VOC product works with luxury vinyl tile/plank and multi-ply engineered plank hardwood flooring over approved substrates.

Beacon Roofing Supply, one of the nation’s largest distributors of roofing and other exterior building products, has acquired Structural Materials, Co., a distributor of residential and commercial roofing products. Headquartered in Santa Ana, Calif., Structural has six locations in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The 64-year-old company had total annual sales of approximately $81 million in 2011.

New Jersey pro dealer Madison Township Lumber & Supply Co. passed the half-century mark this year. 

Serving the entire Garen State, the single-unit location in Matawan, N.J., was founded in 1962 by Anthony J. Martorana Sr., who remains as CEO of the family business. His wife, Louise Ann, is CFO and son Anthony Jr. serves as VP sales and operations.

The dealer distributes BlueLinx I Joist and Billet Beams, hardware, lumber, millwork, Silver Line Windows and Benjamin Moore Paint.

MarJam Supply Co. has acquired a Lainhart & Potter, a 119-year-old Florida hardware and LBM dealer, with locations in West Palm and Juniper. These two locations will expand MarJam’s current Florida yards, which include Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, Ft. Myers and Wildwood.

Georgia-Pacific Wood Products and Sherwood Lumber Co. have announced a new distribution agreement involving GP's full line of engineered wood products (EWP). The two companies have finalized terms that will provide for Sherwood Lumber to supply its dealers with a complete line of Georgia-Pacific engineered wood products, including Wood I Beam joists, GP Lam laminated veneer lumber (LVL), FiberStrong rim board and laminated beams.

Atlanta building products distributor BlueLinx has announced an agreement with Weyerhaeuser to become the independent distributor of Weyerhaeuser's engineered wood products in New England, including Trus Joist, TJI joist, TimberStrand LSL, Microllam LVL, Parallam PSL and TJ Rim board. The agreement is effective Feb. 13, 2012.

Solutions serves both residential and commercial markets with a unique sculpted top rail and softened radial corners. The company offers a line of bracketry and hardware to support virtually any installation application. Its baluster offering features both traditional and contemporary railing components.

A subsidiary of Great Southern Wood Preserving acquired a wood treating plant in Mansura, La., formerly owned by Elder Wood Preserving.

Great Southern CEO Jimmy Rane said the two companies have similar cultures. "Our involvement will simply enable that plant to bring more products and more resources to its customers than ever before while allowing us to expand our footprint," he said. 

Elder Wood has been an industry leader for more than 30 years, he added.

Griffin, Ga.-based Osmose announced a new online American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Program course titled, Micronized Technology for Pressure Treated Wood. 

The course for design professionals familiarizes them with wood as a sustainable building material, the pressure treating process, environmental certifications and other benefits of micronized copper pressure treated wood products, according to Osmose.

For years, Flor has worked to change people’s concept of floor coverings, by selling boxes of modular carpet tiles by mail order.


The concept made another mark on the distribution channel last month. The Chicago-based company opened a brick-and-mortar store in Dallas — its fifth, joining high-profile, high fashion locations in Chicago, New York and Santa Monica, Calif.

LP FlameBlock Fire-Rated Oriented Strand Board (OSB) Sheathing is now included in the CAL FIRE Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Products Handbook, published by the California Office of the State Fire Marshall, for use in roof decking exposed as open eaves.

FlameBlock satisfies the WUI rules for use in the underside of open eaves through its CAL FIRE “low ignition surface” classification, which is granted based on the product’s Class A flame spread rating.

New Jersey floor coverings retailer Worldwide Wholesale Floor Coverings will celebrate its anniversary June 23 with 20 prizes for lucky winners.

Top prize is a $20,000 home flooring makeover. Second prize is a kitchen granite counter top remodel valued at $2,200. The 20th prize is a free carpet cleaning.

The company with locations in Edison and Lawrenceville, N.J., took a creative approach to delivering the prizes. Bar-coded cards were mailed to consumers, who need to bring the card into the store to find out if they have won any of the prizes.

Mannington Mills, a 96-year-old flooring company headquartered in Salem, N.J., has found a way to incorporate vinyl tile scraps and recycled drywall into its manufacturing process in an effort to generate less waste, according to an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Eureka, Calif.-based The California Redwood Co. announced it established a new distributor relationship with Feldman Wood Products to serve a growing demand for its products in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. By May 1, Feldman will have various sizes in stock.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, officially launching the International Year of the Forests on March 30, announced the USDA's strategy to promote the use of wood as a green building material.

Griffin, Ga.-based Osmose, a global supplier of wood preservative products, acquired the production assets of Peninsula Copper Industries, Inc. (PCI), a producer of copper-based chemicals. 

PCI, headquartered in Hubbell, Michigan, is a leading manufacturer and exporter of copper carbonate and cupric oxide chemicals. PCI has been a copper compound supplier to Osmose for over 25 years.
