Johnson City, Tenn.-based General Shale named Charles Smith as CEO of the company, the North American subsidiary of Wienerberger, a manufacture of brick.

Smith is a 22-year veteran of General Shale and he previously served as president and COO. He succeeds Richard L. Green, who retired April 1.

"Charles has helped steer General Shale's operations through a major economic downturn, and he played an instrumental role in revitalizing the company's product development," said Heimo Scheuch, CEO of Wienerberger.

Johnson City, Tenn.-based NN, Inc., a supplier of high-precision metal bearing components, has appointed Evelise Faro to the role of VP and general manager of its Plastic and Rubber Components Group.

Effective immediately, Faro will report to president and CEO Rich Holder and will assume full responsibility for the execution of the Group's strategic growth plan.

Perennial Wood was once touted as a “modified” lumber product and next-generation decking material. 

After a two-year run, it is being discontinued.

Kingsport, Tenn.-based Eastman Chemical Co. has decided to discontinue the Perennial Wood product line and business operations, the company announced today.

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Tractor Supply Co., the nation’s largest farm-and-ranch retailer, reported big gains in sales and earnings for the fourth quarter and full year. 

The company reported nets sales of $1.42 billion in the fourth quarter, up from $1.29 billion in the same quarter last year. Comparable-store sales increased 3.5%.

Net income for the quarter was $95.9 million, up from $79.5 million in the same quarter last year.

Knoxville, Tenn.-based House-Hasson Hardware set a company record in 2013 for new and remodeled hardware store and lumberyard projects, the company announced.

House-Hasson’s 30 new-store and remodeling projects, called store sets, topped the previous high mark of 25 set in the previous year.

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Tractor Supply Co. will open a 19,000-sq.-ft. store in Tucumcari, N.M., in September, according to local press reports. 

The store will be the 12th Tractor Supply location in the state, and one of the 1,245 stores in the nation's largest farm and ranch chain.

In the first three quarters of the company's current fiscal year, Tractor Supply opened 71 new stores and closed two stores. Late last year, the retailer established its first stores in the states of Wyoming and Nevada.

GE has launched its first-ever Monogram French door built-in refrigerator, adding its own signature twist to the burgeoning French door trend.

“Our designers worked with our customers to create our first Monogram French door built-in model—one that authentically combines superior craftsmanship and performance as only Monogram can,” said Michael Mahan, product manager for Monogram Refrigeration.

The two winners of the 2013 BehrPro Experience Tour sweepstakes were announced Wednesday on the heels of an 18-week mobile tour around the country.

Doug Kinder, owner of Madisonville, Tenn.-based Kinder Painting Company, and Jeff McCaffery of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Tom Kelly Construction Inc., will both be honored at local ceremonies this week. Each, as well, will receive a custom-wrapped trailer and trade tools, worth over $10,000 in total.

NASHVILLE, TENN. — Like most of us, Alan Clark worries about the direction of legislation and politics. Like few of us, he got himself elected to the Arkansas state senate.

Clark, the VP and chief operating officer of two-unit Clark Lumber Co. in Hot Springs, Ark., is also the state’s senator for the 13th district. He was part of a wave of recent Republican party victories in Bill Clinton’s backyard. Clark’s legislative class has the first Republican majority in the Arkansas state legislature in 138 years.

Electrolux North America today announced that it has recently begun production on its first Memphis, Tenn.-made home cooking appliances. 

The inaugural products produced at the Memphis facility, the Frigidaire and Frigidaire Gallery slide–in ranges, rolled off the assembly line, were crated and loaded onto trucks for warehousing and retail distribution throughout the United States. This marks the culmination of a two-year construction effort of the $266 million facility.

Nashville, Tenn.-based Louisiana-Pacific Corp. (LP) reported third-quarter sales of $507 million, up 10% from the same quarter last year.

The company said OSB prices continued to decline in the quarter, resulting in lower eanrings. LP reported income from continuing operations of $38 million, up from $31 million in last year's third quarter.

"Each of our business segments generated positive adjusted EBITDA in the quarter," said CEO Curt Stevens.

In his presentation, titled "Emerging Trends in Remodeling: A Consumer and Contractor Perspective," Farnsworth detailed the experiences and expectations of architects, contractors and remodelers.

Nashville, Tenn. -- A few months ago, John Burns described himself as a raging optimist. Today he's just an optimist.

That was one of the observations from the real estate consultant's presentation at the ProDealer Industry Summit. The fundamentals of the housing recover are solid, he said. But in the sales office, sales and bargains and price drops surged in September. A survey showed 10% of builders surveyed dropped prices, from zero in the previous month.
