Bloomington, Minn.-based The Toro Co. reported record highs in sales and earnings for the second quarter, despite a double-digit sales decline in the residential division.

The company posted net earnings of $78.4 million, on a net sales increase of 1.9%, to $704.5 million for its fiscal second quarter ended May 3. 

In the comparable fiscal 2012 period, the company delivered net earnings of $68.8 million on net sales of $691.5 million.

The Toro Co. will be introducing several new Tier 4 compliant Reelmaster and Groundsmaster mowers beginning in 2013 that incorporate more sophisticated electronic controls, as well as new engines, exhaust systems and after-treatment technology.

Bloomington, Minn.-based The Toro Co. reported net earnings of $129.5 million for the full year ended Oct. 31, up from earnings of $117.7 million in 2011. 

Net sales increased 4% to $1.96 billion for its fiscal year. 

For the fourth quarter, Toro reported net earnings of $0.3 million, down from $5 million in the fourth quarter of 2011. Net sales decreased 7.8% to $339.3 million in the quarter.

The Toro Co. signed a three-year installment financing services agreement with Clemmons, N.C.-based Sheffield Financial.

The Toro Company supports a variety of customer financing options and has agreed to endorse Sheffield as an exclusive provider of installment financing programs for its Toro and Exmark residential and contractor brands of outdoor power equipment sold by Toro and Exmark dealers throughout the United States.

The Toro Co. has announced a partnership with Yanmar America Corp. Yanmar will provide diesel engines for select Toro commercial turf maintenance equipment. The Yanmar diesel engines will allow Toro to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Tier 4 emissions regulations, which go into effect Jan. 1, 2013.

The first Toro products to feature Yanmar's Tier 4 compliant diesel engine technology will be select commercial mowers over 25 horsepower.

The Toro Co. has partnered with Ryan Cos. to build a 450,000-sq.-ft. distribution center near Des Moines, Iowa. Toro will lease the facility from Ryan once construction is completed later this year. Toro will then transition distribution operations from its current facilities in Lakeville, Minn., and Beatrice, Neb., to the Des Moines facility.

Bloomington, Minn.-based Toro Co. posted record sales in 2011, including a 5.8% sales gain in the company's residential segment. 

“Fiscal 2011 was a very good year for the Toro Co., delivering record revenues and earnings per share,” said Michael Hoffman, Toro’s chairman and CEO.

For the year, the company's total earnings were up 26.3% to $117.7 million, and net sales were up 11.5% to $1.884 billion. In the fourth quarter, net earnings increased from $3.2 million to $5 million, as net sales increased 9.1% to $337.3 million.

The Toro Co. acquired Lawn Solutions Commercial Products, a manufacturer of innovative turf renovation equipment for the landscape, rental, municipal and golf markets. 

The acquisition, which includes a dedicated lineup of aerators, seeders, power rakes and brush cutters, adds key product categories to Toro’s portfolio to support growth across its core global businesses. 

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Toro Co. has acquired Escondido, Calif.-based outdoor lighting manufacturer Unique Lighting Systems, according to the Press Enterprise.

Toro will move the newly acquired company to its Toro Irrigation Systems headquarters in Riverside, Calif.

According to the article, many of the contractors that install sprinkler systems also install outdoor lighting, and the company sees this as a chance to streamline the supply chain.
