Toledo, Ohio-based Owens Corning announced Wednesday that it had added two new members to its board of directors. The new members are NBCUniversal EVP Cesar Conde and FMC Technologies SVP and CFO Maryann Seaman.

"We welcome Maryann and Cesar to our Board of Directors," Owens Corning Chairman and CEO Mike Thaman said. "Our company will benefit from their broad business experience and diverse backgrounds."

Oak Brook, Ill.-based Ace Hardware Corp. reported total fiscal 2013 revenues of $4.2 billion, an increase of 8.2% over the previous year.

“2013 was a record year for the company," said John Venhuizen, Ace president and CEO. “We outperformed our operating plan, exceeding $4 billion in consolidated revenues and $100 million in net income for the first time in our history.”

A groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday drew representatives from Ace and local business leaders to the site of a future retail support center in West Jefferson, Ohio.

The co-op expects the 500,000-sq.-ft. facility to be completed in July 2014. The facility will essentially replace an older facility currently operating in Toledo.

Toledo, Ohio-based Owens Corning has announced a deal to purchase a bushing facility in China. 

Accoding to Owens Corning, the purchase provides a footprint to serve the fastest-growing glass fiber region in the world.

Tragic because of the loss of another business in downtown Toledo. Fewer jobs for fewer Americans. A way of life eroded. Mysterious because — well, who was to blame, really?

A posting on a message board of the Toledo Blade on the closing of Fleeger's PRO Hardware reflected the challenges facing a small business in a down economy. It also shows one employee's passion for the business.

The employee's comment on his experience at Fleeger's PRO Hardware appeared in a long stream of comments regarding the closing of the store. Here is the note in its entirety:

Bill Bollin, chairman and CEO of The Bostwick-Braun Co., was honored with a Lifetime of Achievement award on Nov. 3 by the PRO Group at its annual Executive Planning Conference in Naples, Fla.

Bollin joined the Toledo, Ohio-based Bostwick-Braun Co. in 1970, working in the warehouse and later moving on to shipping, office support, data processing, purchasing, management and all the way to his current position as chairman.

Following a tour of a Chrysler automobile assembly plant on June 3, President Barack Obama paid an unexpected visit to Fred’s PRO Hardware in Toledo, Ohio. It seems that the First Lady needed gardening gloves.

Obama chose a pair of $4.99 green Boss Dirt Digger gloves. After the purchase, he posed for photos with store employees and approximately seven customers before leaving in his motorcade.

Owens Corning’s Toledo, Ohio, global headquarters has earned gold certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Existing Building (EB) program -- it is the third existing building in Ohio to receive the designation.

The building first earned silver certification under the LEED-EB program in 2007 and has an Energy Star rating, which ranks it among the top 25% of energy-efficient buildings in the United States.

Toledo, Ohio-based Owens Corning reported full-year consolidated net sales of $5.0 billion, up 4% from net sales of $4.8 billion in 2009. Net earnings totaled $933 million, compared with net earnings of $64 million in 2009.

The company reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $110 million, compared with a net loss of $21 million in the same period in 2009. Fourth-quarter 2010 adjusted earnings were $29 million, up from $1 million in the year-ago period.
