Tractor Supply’s expansion plans are getting a boost from a new distribution center being built in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Executives and local government officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking event Nov. 17, at the Casa Grande distribution center site located in the Central Arizona Commerce Park. The facility is expected to begin operating in the fourth quarter of 2015 and will be approximately 650,000 sq. ft. in size.

Tractor Supply named Chad Frazell as senior VP human resources. 

Prior to joining Tractor Supply Company, Frazell was senior VP human resources for Shopko Stores. From 2008 to 2011, he served as VP human resources for Kohl's Corporation, where he began as a store manager in 1999. Prior to 1999, Frazell served as a store manager and assistant manager for Target Corporation. He began his career with Wal-Mart Stores, where he served as an assistant manager and sales associate.

Work has begun on a new Tractor Supply store in Raton City, New Mexico, where the population stands at less than 7,000.

The 19,000-sq.-ft. store is expected to be open in mid-September, according to an article in the Sangre de Cristo Chronicle.

Tractor Supply CEO Greg Sandfort is one of six new executives on the National Retail Federation board of directors.

In addition to Sandfort, the group includes Walmart CEO Bill Simon, Beall’s CEO Steve Knopik, J.C. Penney CEO Myron Ullman, SAP senior VP Lori Mitchell-Kell, and Utah Retail Merchants Association president Dave Davis. 

The retailers were elected to the board Sunday, the opening day of NRF’s 103rd Annual Convention and EXPO. They will serve three-year terms.

Effective Jan. 1, Cynthia Jamison will succeed James Wright as chairman of the board at Tractor Supply.

Jamison has served as lead director with the board since 2010, which she joined in 2002. Previously, she served as CFO of Australian irrigation company AquaSpy Inc. and was a partner with professional services firm Tatum LLC, where she served as CFO and COO for various companies.

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Tractor Supply approved a 2-for-1 stock split, to be initiated Sept. 18. 

It will be the company's fourth 2-for-1 split since 2002.

"This action is the result of our strong operating results and stock price performance, and reflects the confidence that the board and management have in our long-term business strategy and our ability to continue returning value to our shareholders," said executive chairman Jim Wright.

Tractor Supply celebrated its 21st consecutive quarter of year-over-year same-store transaction count increases on its way to a double-digit sales gain for the three-months ended June 29.

The Brentwood, Tenn.-based farm and ranch giant posted second-quarter sales of $1.46 billion, up 12.7% from $1.29 billion a year ago. Net income for the quarter rose 15.9% to $123.6 million, up from $106.6 million.

No matter how you slice them, the numbers of the HCN Top 300 Industry Scoreboard reflect the rising housing market, increased spending on the home and an easy comparison with the previous year's performance.

Of the leading 300 home channel retailers, 277 show positive sales in the most recently completed finished fiscal year, and 12 show declines. Eleven others are listed as flat.

Even with no early spring in 2013, comp-store sales increased 0.5% for the Brentwood, Tenn.-based farm and ranch retailer

Tractor Supply sales increased 6.4% in the first quarter to $1.09 billion, up from $1.02 billion in the year-ago period.
Same-store sales increased 0.5% compared with a very strong 11.5% increase in the prior-year period, when an early spring boosted sales by about $38 million. 
 
Net income for the quarter was $44.0 million, up 9.2% compared with net income of $40.3 million last year.
