Trex is lending a hand to Global Training Ministries' warrior transition home in Indianapolis, which will receive a donation of its high-performance decking products as part of its ongoing renovation.

The facility is currently being updated and expanded to accommodate more residents and more amenities, such as an outdoor deck where soldiers can enjoy "sky time" and hold meetings and socialize.

Trex Company is making its debut in the world of e-commerce, but not in the way one would necessarily expect of the decking and railing manufacturer.

Trex is launching its high-performance Outdoor Lighting collection on Amazon.com, bypassing its own website to join other Trex-branded products that have populated Amazon's site via Trex licensees (such as Trex Outdoor Furniture, Trex RainEscape and Trex Pergola). However, this will be the first product line sold directly by Trex online.

Shares of Trex Company jumped on Monday following the release of an exceptionally strong second-quarter earnings report, results which the company attributed to pent-up demand and the success of its various initiatives.

Net sales increased 23% year-over-year to $121.3 million, compared to $98.6 million in 2013.

Net income for the three months ended June 30 was $15.2 million, up 62% from last year's earnings of $13.2 million. This takes into account a $9.1 million increase in income taxes after Trex exited its tax valuation allowance at the end of last year.

Trex's "Engineered Artistry" campaign brought home the bacon for its pairings of well-known engineers and artists, who were filmed talking about high-minded concepts like form and function -- all while standing on a Trex deck.

Winchester, Va.-based Trex Company reported fourth-quarter sales of $63.8 million, an increase of 38% over the same quarter last year.

Winchester, Va.-based Trex Co. announced that on Dec. 16, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted final approval of a settlement that resolves a nationwide class action lawsuit alleging misrepresentations and defects in Trex’s first-generation composite products relating to mold growth and color issues.

The cost to Trex under the settlement is capped at $8.25 million, plus $1.475 million in attorneys’ fees.

Winchester, Va.-based Trex Company, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing, is expanding its presence in the Mid-Atlantic region with the addition of Pittsburgh-based Babcock Lumber Company to its distribution network.

Babcock will supply dealers across western and central Pennsylvania, western New York and West Virginia with Trex products.

Trex Co. is partnering with Manufacturers Reserve Supply (MRS), a New Jersey-based distributor that will supply dealers in the Northeast region with Trex's wood-alternative decking and railing.

MRS specializes in the wholesale distribution of decking, siding, roofing and trim, mainly to lumberyards, specialty dealers and home centers in the tri-state region.

Trex, the largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking, said the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted preliminary approval of a settlement agreement that will resolve a nationwide class action lawsuit filed in California alleging problems in Trex’s first-generation composite products relating to mold growth and color issues.

PVC and composite decking manufacturer Fiberon has appointed Shellie Sellards as its newest vice president of marketing. 

Sellards, who brings a proven track record of growth to the table, will be leaving her current position Owens Corning, where she held the position of director of strategic marketing -- insulation. She also worked at Trex and The Dannon Company.
