Trex's "Engineered Artistry" campaign brought home the bacon for its pairings of well-known engineers and artists, who were filmed talking about high-minded concepts like form and function -- all while standing on a Trex deck.

Winchester, Va.-based Trex Company reported fourth-quarter sales of $63.8 million, an increase of 38% over the same quarter last year.

“We brought 2013 to a very strong finish,” said chairman, president and CEO Ronald W. Kaplan. “Expanded distribution and dealer demand across the country contributed significantly to sales and are helping us advance a key initiative -- increasing market share.”

Winchester, Va.-based Trex Co. announced that on Dec. 16, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted final approval of a settlement that resolves a nationwide class action lawsuit alleging misrepresentations and defects in Trex’s first-generation composite products relating to mold growth and color issues.

The cost to Trex under the settlement is capped at $8.25 million, plus $1.475 million in attorneys’ fees.

Winchester, Va.-based Trex Company, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing, is expanding its presence in the Mid-Atlantic region with the addition of Pittsburgh-based Babcock Lumber Company to its distribution network.

Babcock will supply dealers across western and central Pennsylvania, western New York and West Virginia with Trex products.

Trex Co. is partnering with Manufacturers Reserve Supply (MRS), a New Jersey-based distributor that will supply dealers in the Northeast region with Trex's wood-alternative decking and railing.

MRS specializes in the wholesale distribution of decking, siding, roofing and trim, mainly to lumberyards, specialty dealers and home centers in the tri-state region.

At a cost capped at $8.25 million plus attorney’s fees, Trex Co. is settling a California lawsuit connected to mold in an early version of its decking product.

Trex, the largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking, said the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted preliminary approval of a settlement agreement that will resolve a nationwide class action lawsuit filed in California alleging problems in Trex’s first-generation composite products relating to mold growth and color issues.

PVC and composite decking manufacturer Fiberon has appointed Shellie Sellards as its newest vice president of marketing. 

Sellards, who brings a proven track record of growth to the table, will be leaving her current position Owens Corning, where she held the position of director of strategic marketing -- insulation. She also worked at Trex and The Dannon Company.

Trex Co. has announced the addition of Pebble Grey to its Trex Select decking and railing collection. The cool, subdued color will make its debut on the market as homeowners put the finishing touches on their decks and patios for the season.

According to the company, Pebble Grey "creates a relaxed coastal atmosphere that complements the exterior of any home."

Pebble Grey will be the fifth in a line of Trex Select decking colors inspired by nature, including Madeira, Winchester Grey, Saddle and Woodland Brown.

Composite decking manufacturer Trex Co. reported net sales of $70.8 million for the third fiscal quarter, a 4.2% rise over net sales of $67.9 million for the same quarter in 2011. The company reported a net loss of $14.3 million for the quarter, which ended Sept. 30, compared with a net loss of $0.5 million the prior-year period. Before a one-time charge during the third quarter of 2012 -- a $20 million pre-tax increase to its warranty reserve for decking material -- net income was $6.2 million.

Winchester, Va.-based Trex Company expanded its Trex Transcend decking collection to include a new, variegated light brown color called Tiki Torch. 

The earthy shade features reddish-brown hardwood streaking and is designed to complement both the two existing tropical-inspired Transcend shades and the five classic Transcend hues.

Decking manufacturer Trex Co. reported net sales of $94.3 million for its second fiscal quarter, a 20% rise over sales of $78.4 million in the same quarter last year. Net income for the second quarter, which ended June 30, 2012, was $8.3 million, compared with net income of $2.1 million a year ago.
