Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser Co. announced that Doyle Simons, 48, will join its board of directors, effective June 29.

Simons' appointment follows the departure of Arnold Langbo, who retired from Weyerhaeuser's board in 2011.

Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser Co. has completed the sale of its hardwoods business to American Industrial Partners.

Total proceeds from the sale will be approximately $108 million.

Assets included in the transaction are located in Tuscumbia, Ala.; Elkhart, Ind.; Grand Rapids and Lewiston, Mich.; Brainerd, Minn.; Coos Bay, Eugene and Garibaldi, Ore.; Titusville, Pa.; Arlington, Centralia and Longview, Wash.; and Dorchester and Onalaska, Wis.

Federal Way, Wash.-based building products manufacturer and distributor iLevel by Weyerhaeuser is donating construction materials to help relief efforts in Joplin, Mo., following the spring tornado that killed more than 150 people. The company is providing a truckload of oriented strand board (OSB) sheathing and a truckload of 2x4 lumber to help repair and rebuild homes and other buildings damaged in the May 21 storm.

Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser reported net earnings of $1.116 billion for the third quarter, compared with essentially $0 in profit in the same quarter last year.

 

The company's net sales were $1.664 billion, up 18.3% from $1.407 billion in the same quarter last year.

 

 

Earnings for the third quarter of 2010 included $1.035 billion from income tax adjustments, primarily related to the reversal of deferred taxes as a result of Weyerhaeuser’s conversion to a real estate investment trust (REIT).
