Mike Salsieder of Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork has become the new chair of the windows and doors group.

The Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) announced its new leadership team at the WDMA Spring Meeting and Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.   

At the meeting, the WDMA board of directors elected Mike Salsieder, of Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork in Wausau, Wis., as the association's 2013-2014 chair, replacing outgoing chair Ann Duebner of Eggers Industries in Two Rivers, Wis.

Savannah, Ga. -- The 2012 ProDealer Industry Summit begins today in Savannah, Ga., with a slate of committee meetings of the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) and the annual NLBMDA Installation dinner.

San Antonio — The layoffs, bankruptcies, pay cuts and long hours that have cast a pall over the industry for the last several years were pushed aside for three days last month as LBM executives gathered here to greet old friends, catch up on gossip, and maybe learn a thing or two about how to run a better business. The 2011 ProDealer Industry Summit, co-sponsored by the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) and Home Channel News, hosted 100-plus pro dealers and LBM distributors from more than 65 companies Oct. 26 to 28.

San Antonio -- The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) has announced its new leadership team installed on Oct. 26 at the ProDealer Industry Summit. 

At the association's annual meeting, the NLBMDA board of directors elected Cally Coleman Fromme, executive VP of Zarsky Lumber, as the association's new chair, replacing outgoing chair Joe Collings of Ferguson Lumber. Fromme is the first woman to lead the association in its 94-year history.

DeWalt has launched its new Line Laser, which features multiple design enhancements to improve productivity on the jobsite. 

The DW089K is for professionals tasked with residential and commercial applications, such as installing cabinets, drop ceilings, chair rails or doors and windows. The Line Laser can also be used when installing floor and wall tile or mapping wall layout.

The California State Water Resources Control Board is proposing new regulations on stormwater runoff and containment that the Lumber Association of California & Nevada (LACN) has called "controversial, costly and unfair."

According to Ken Dunham, LACN executive director, the regulations affect lumberyards and any business with a physical outside yard. LACN Government Affairs Chair and LACN Second VP Augie Venezia presented his views and those of the LACN at an Aug. 17 workshop organized by the Water Resources Control Board.

Annette Verschuren, the former president of Home Depot Canada, will chair the 2012 Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference, according to an article in the Montreal Gazette. She will be the first woman ever to lead the symposium.

Towson, Md.-based Porter-Cable has introduced a heavy-duty, 1-gal., 135 Max PSI quiet trim compressor (C1010). The new one-man compressor offers contractors a lightweight, compact design and quiet operation for custom trim and/or punch-out work. 

The C1010 can be used for case, base, crown and chair rail trim molding, custom installation of furniture, shelves or built-ins; as well as for cabinet trim installation and new plumbing line pressure testing.

Canadian distributor and retailer RONA introduced an alkaline-battery charger that works for regular disposable batteries. This new product, available under the RONA ECO brand, has been analyzed by the International Chair in Life Cycle Assessment at École Polytechnique de Montréal.

The device can recharge four AA or AAA batteries at a time. The recharge time only takes 90 minutes, and the charger can recharge the same battery up to 200 times, raising the average life expectancy of a battery from eight hours to 1,600 hours, according to RONA.

The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies has named Dan Fulton, president and CEO of Weyerhaeuser, as the new chair of its Policy Advisory Board.

“I’m honored to step into the chairman position,” Fulton said. “As a longstanding member of the Policy Advisory Board, I’ve always respected the rigorous research taking place at the Joint Center. I’m looking forward to being involved on this new level.”

Doron Broadfoot, president of The Rent-It Store in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, took over as chair for the board of trustees of the American Rental Association Foundation.

The Moline, Ill.-based ARA Foundation also named a new vice chair. Catherine DeBusk, VP of Party People Rentals in Phoenix will fill that post. Two new trustees joined the Foundation board: Andy Cooke, VP Cooke Rentals in North Carolina, and Dave Garton, sales and marketing manager for John Deere, Moline, Ill.
