Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's has named Michael McDermott to the high-profile position of chief merchandising officer.
McDermott replaces Michael Jones, who is transitioninig into the role of COO on April 30, supervising McDermott. He will be responsible for the merchandising operations of Lowe's U.S. business, as well as all global sourcing activities. He has been with the company since 2013 as SVP general merchandising. He has over 20 years of experience in the field, with previous stints at General Electric.
Lowe's has named Michael A. Jones chief customer officer, replacing the soon-to-be-retired Gregory Bridgeford.
Effective April 30, Jones (who is currently chief merchandising officer) will transition into his new role, in which he'll be responsible for developing a customer-centric experience via design, merchandising, marketing and digital interfaces.
Citing the company's unique problem-solving focus, Lowe's honored Olympic Paint and Stain as its 2013 Innovation Partner of the Year at its annual vendor meeting.
"With the launch of its new resurfacing product, Olympic rescued consumers who were previously stuck with only costly replacement options," said Mike Jones, Lowe's chief merchandising officer. "By working hand-in-hand, Olympic and Lowe's have raised the bar on delivering quality and value, helping make home improvement simpler by solving a complex problem for customers."
During the height of what some call the Great Recession, as the country was struggling to reverse the economic slide, Tom Hardman was looking for positive themes his hardware store could use to project an attitude that said: “We refuse to participate in the recession.”

Jones.
Former Williams-Sonoma Brand president Richard Harvey joined Corte Madera, Calif.-based Restoration Hardware as chief merchandising officer for RH Kitchen and Tableware, expected to launch in late 2014.
In his new role, Harvey is charged to develop a curated collection of kitchen furniture, appliances, lighting, cookware, tools and food.
