Dr. Christopher Herbert will step in as managing director of the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies next year, effective Jan. 1, 2015.

Herbert has been serving as director of research for the Joint Center since 2010 and has been responsible for the annual State of the Nation's Housing report. He also specializes in subject matter such as housing trends, residential settlement patterns and credit access/affordability challenges.

NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG), the parent company of Hyster Company and Yale Materials Handling Corporation, promoted Pat DeSutter, Director of Fleet Management, to Vice President of Fleet, Service and Aftermarket, effective January 1, 2015.

In his new role, DeSutter will oversee all sales, operations and management for the fleet, service and aftermarket divisions of Hyster Company and Yale Materials Handling Corporation.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company has named Brian Finn to its board of directors, replacing Stepanie Shern, who resigned from the board in October. Finn will serve on the Audit and Finance Committees for a term expiring in 2017.

Finn has been retired since last year, when he left his post as chairman and CEO of Asset Management Finance Corporation and as senior advisor to Credit Suisse. He held various other roles at Credit Suisse, including president of Credit Suisse First Boston and CEO of Credit Suisse USA.

Pope Resources has officially appointed Thomas Ringo to the role of permanent CEO following a six-month stint as the company's interim chief executive.

The equipment rental industry in the United States is expected to show significant growth of 7.3% in 2014 to reach $35.7 billion, according to the American Rental Association’s (ARA) latest forecast from the ARA Rental Market Monitor.

The revised figures, compiled by IHS, formerly IHS Global Insight and recently released by ARA, are slightly below ARA’s previous July forecast of 7.6% revenue growth in 2014 to reach $35.8 billion.

Paul Colliton has rejoined Huttig Building Products as senior director of product management. 

Colliton was a key part of the Huttig management team from 1994-2007, holding positions of sales manager, district sales manager, regional director and regional VP.

In his new role, Paul will lead product management and programs around CPG Building Products decking, railing, PVC trim and pavers. He will report to Greg Gurley, VP product management, marketing and national accounts.

In advance of new federal efficiency standards for dryers set to take effect in 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has handed the 2014 Energy Star Emerging Technology Award over to LG Electronics for its new EcoHybrid Heat Pump Dryer.

The EcoHybrid is described as the first dryer with heat pump technology to hit the market in the U.S., meaning it captures and recycles energy that's generated during the drying cycle. This translates to up to 50% more energy savings, according to third-party testing.
