Parker Do it Best Lumber, based in Beaumont, Texas, was chosen as a 2014 pro dealer Entrepreneur of the Year in the category of sales of over $50 million. 

Parker Lumber has been serving builders, remodelers and homeowners for more than 80 years in Texas and now southern California. Scott Parker runs the family-owned company that employs 350 people throughout 22 locations. 

Parker’s continued growth into new markets is cited as a key factor for its success.

Main Street Lumber in Denison, Texas, was recently selected as a 2014 Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Sales of Under $10 Million. 

Co-owner Chuck Pool accepted the award, which was presented at a recent LBM Distribution conference.

About the size of a golf ball, the brass nozzle with a ball-bearing control mechanism benefits from a blister pack that simulates the nozzle in action. The packaging shows one end of the nozzle attached to a hose, while the other end shoots a powerful spray of water.

Tampa, Fla.-based entrepreneur John Wink, of Novel Ideas, has announced the national launch of EcoBorder, an environmentally friendly landscape product.

Manufactured in the United States and molded from recycled tire rubber, this landscape edging was invented in 15-year landscape Wink’s garage, after his position with Merrill Lynch ended about the time of the 2008 stock market crash. With 15 years of experience in landscaping, he invented EcoBorder out of his garage in 2009.

Whether it’s a product designed to bring efficiency to the home, save time for the DIYer or allow a consumer a chance to feel good about buying a Made-in-the-USA product, show organizers have taken steps to give permanence to the show-floor activity.

The May 1 to 3 event at the Las Vegas Convention Center will see a few new twists.

For the first time at the show, a “Made in the USA Pavilion” will showcase domestic-made products.

Jeff Schulein of Crown Ace Hardware has accomplished what few dealers can lay claim to: 17 stores, a solid succession plan and, since the economic downturn, no store closures or major employee layoffs. In fact, Schulein and his son, Mark, are in negotiations to open an 18th store, this one in San Diego. 


“I’m an entrepreneur who does things by the seat of his pants,” Jeff said. “Mark is a good manager. He’s highly organized. So together we make a good team.”
