The new building center and showroom will occupy the site of the former Franklin Emery (F.E.) Wheaton Lumberyard.

Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based Edward Hines Lumber, a subsidiary of US LBM Holdings, will open a full-service building supply center and showroom in May in the Chicago area.

The new facility will occupy the site of the former Franklin Emery (F.E.) Wheaton Lumberyard. The downtown Wheaton, Ill., property has been vacant since F.E. Wheaton closed in 2010. The new lumberyard will be managed by former F.E. Wheaton 
general manager of 28 years, Pat Briody.

Style Crest, the Fremont, Ohio-based distributor of building materials and manufacturer of vinyl siding, has appointed Jeff Buckley as president, Residential Housing Group.

Buckley spent his career in building products and distribution, most recently with Weyerhauser, where he held the position of general manager of the Eastern Division since 2006.

He will assume this leadership role in addition to his existing responsibility as the general manager for the company’s Restoration Millwork Exterior PVC Trim product line.

CalStar Products, a manufacturer of low-energy, low-CO2 masonry products, has hired Joel Rood as its new CEO. Rood has worked in the building products and materials industry for 15 years, most recently as general manager for CertainTeed Canada. He also served as general manager of the southern U.S. division at James Hardie Corp.

Rood’s previous positions also include assignments with Hilti and Schlumberger in the United States and internationally.

SieMatic USA, a maker of high-end kitchen cabinetry, has appointed Hans Henkes as its new general manager. Henkes will oversee operations in North America, serving as liaison to SieMatic’s corporate and independent partner showrooms, as well as leading the company’s commercial division.

Henkes, who has been with the company for four years, has a background in international management. He will be responsible for managing SieMatic USA operations and market development throughout the United States and Canada.

The incoming chairman of the Florida Building Material Association (FBMA) spelled out his top 10 goals in a recent note to his membership. Among them: a double-digit percentage gain in FBMA membership and the introduction of a fishing and skeet-shooting event.

George Fishtorn II, general manager of Kimal Lumber & Hardware, with locations in Nokomis, Englewood and Venice, will begin his term Jan. 1. Fishtorn told Home Channel News he was "extremely honored" to hold the position with FBMA, which was established in 1921.

Designed to replace a 75-watt incandescent bulb, while reducing energy consumption by 80% and lasting 25 times longer, the Philips EnduraLED A21 17-watt marks another important milestone in LED lighting technology for everyday use, the company said.

Joel Key has joined Raleigh, N.C.-based Healthy Home Diagnostics (HHD) as general manager of the indoor air quality solution company.

Key brings to the company 20 years of experience as an HVAC, plumbing and refrigeration contractor and 13 years of experience as a state-licensed contractor. He developed a pilot training program for weatherization technicians that lead to the state-approved training procedure used in North Carolina.

Benjamin Obdyke has named Tara Murray as its new marketing manager, reporting directly to general manager Michael Coulton. In her new position, Murray will be responsible for the development and implementation of marketing plans supporting all Benjamin Obdyke existing and new products.

Murray comes to the company from CertainTeed Corp., where she worked in the ceilings division and held posts of increasing responsibility in product marketing and marketing communications. She began her career with the print and digital design services agency Warkulwiz Design Associates.

LAKE PARK, Ga. —An automated, mechanized distribution center is an amazing spectacle. Products whiz around elaborate conveyor belts at 450 ft. per minute, as if each package had a mind of its own. Thanks to precision placement of laser scanners, sorting shoes will perfectly time their push across the conveyor, gently nudging the right product to the right chute, and hence, the right store.

When watched from above, the entire system takes on a kind of artificial intelligence.

An 84 Lumber location in East Milton, Fla., is reopening Oct. 1, according to an article in the Pensacola News Journal.

In addition to a full lumberyard, the outlet will include a millwork facility and door shop. Installation services will also be available.

General manager Ken Tuggle told the newspaper he will open with 20 employees at first, then bring on 20 more in the coming months as the location adds a truss manufacturing plant.

The northern Florida store closed in April 2008 as one of 30 locations shuttered during the housing downturn.
