In response to Eastman Chemical’s recent announcement that it would cease the manufacturing of Perennial Wood products -- the trade name for acetylated wood -- Snavely Forest Products announced today that it will continue to market the high-performance decking product.

Nortek, Inc., a producer of ventilation, heating and cooling, and air management systems, has hired Andrew Bonham as group president, Residential Ventilation.

Bonham has approximately 30 years of experience under his belt in manufacturing, sales, marketing and e-business. His resume spans major companies such as GE, Allied Signal and Invensys plc. He has also opened manufacturing facilities and completed acquisitions both in the U.S. and abroad. In his most recent role, he served as president of Grace Construction Products.

USG Corporation's Auburn, Wa., manufacturing plant has earned a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star from the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and its Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

L&I officials presented the award, which is the highest accolade within the VPP, to the plant's 49 employees Thursday. The Star, which has only been awarded to approximately 2,500 worksites out of 8 million in the U.S., recognizes the company's efforts to go above and beyond with its safety and health programs.

Whirlpool Corporation made a step forward on Monday in its appeal of a case against what it claims is predatory pricing.

The U.S. Court of International Trade took Whirlool's side in its appeal of the U.S. International Trade Commission's previous decision, which ruled that refrigerators from LG and Samsung -- reportedly dumped at margins of up to 15% -- were causing material injury to U.S. manufacturing.

Winona, Minn.-based Fastenal Co. said it expects to miss the average analyst net earnings expectations for the fourth quarter of 2013 of $0.36 per share.

The company listed three reasons for the miss. First is weakness in the heavy manufacturing component of the business. This weakness first appeared in late 2012, and intensified in recent months, the company said.

GE has launched its first-ever Monogram French door built-in refrigerator, adding its own signature twist to the burgeoning French door trend.

“Our designers worked with our customers to create our first Monogram French door built-in model—one that authentically combines superior craftsmanship and performance as only Monogram can,” said Michael Mahan, product manager for Monogram Refrigeration.

Here’s the bad news: Your organization is least likely to enforce rules about party behavior, and your workers are most inclined to act inappropriately during the festivities and then be disciplined for it later on.

Fello began his career in the window industry at Thermal Industries as a branch manager and held director positions at Traco, including quality, manufacturing and materials. Experienced in Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Quick Response Quality Control and ISO-9000, he is also a graduate of Clarion University with a degree in business management.

The unemployment rate declined from 7.3% in October to 7.0% in November, according to the Employment Situation report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released Friday morning.

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 203,000 with increases in transportation and warehousing, health care and manufacturing, according to the report.

Still, the labor force participation rate remained relatively steady at 63.0% in November.

Electrolux has named Nolan Pike as senior VP and general manager for its North American cooking business, effective Dec. 2.

Pike most recently worked for Sears as its Kenmore Brand VP and general manager and as the top merchant for Sears Home Appliances. He also spent many years in manufacturing and led the development, launch and product management of several cooking lines.

Jenn-Air has partnered with 20-20 Technologies, a maker of 3-D interior design and manufacturing software, to extend the capacity for interior designers to incorporate Jenn-Air appliances in their 3-D renderings.

Users of 20-20 Technologies can now select products from Jenn-Air's appliance line to plan and conceptualize kitchens with realistic 3-D drawings.
