Boise Cascade posted solid numbers for its second quarter earnings report.

Net sales of $961.2 million for the three months ended June 30 marked a 13% improvement over last year's $852.3 million in sales. Meanwhile, net income came in at $26.4 million, up from $10.4 million in the second quarter of 2013.

PPG Industries is moving forward with its plans to sell the assets of its Mt. Zion, Illinois glass manufacturing facility to its partner of 13 years, glass manufacturer Fuyao Glass America Inc.

In Fuayo's hands, the facility (which currently manufactures glass for residential and commercial projects) will be retrofitted to produce automotive glass.

Recently released data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2012 Economic census shows that the value of household appliance manufacturing shipments dropped 10.8% to $4.3 billion, down from nearly $5 billion in 2007.

The drop in shipping value comes along with other decreases in the industry — including a decrease in the number of people it employed in 2007.

As of the 2016 lawn & garden season, Briggs & Stratton is trimming down on its production to help cut costs, which will include limiting its Snapper consumer lawn and garden equipment and consolidating its products manufacturing facilities.

The company will also close its McDonough, Georgia location and consolidate production into existing facilities in Wisconsin and New York.

Anderson, California-based Sierra Pacific Industries signed a deal to purchase Hurd and Superseal Windows and Doors from Longroad Asset Management. 

Terms of the deal were not released.

According to SPI, the purchase will add manufacturing capacity, a skilled workforce, additional product lines, and immediate exposure to Central and Eastern U.S. and international markets for the Window Division of Sierra Pacific Industries -- a family owned and managed wood products firm.

Irving, Texas-based PrimeSource Building Products has announced the acquisition of Progressive Steel and Wire. In doing so, the building material distributor says its paved the way for more U.S. jobs.

PSW was previously part of a joint venture between Dubai Wire and PrimeSource, but with PrimeSource now taking 100 percent ownership and control, the company says it intends to bring nail and wire product manufacturing back to the US, creating new local jobs.

Roxul, a manufacturer of stone wool insulation products, officially began production in Marshall County, Mississippi, at its first manufacturing facility located in the United States.

The $160 million plant encompasses 600,000 square feet and is located on a 100 acre site in the Chickasaw Trail Industrial Park, approximately 30 miles south of Memphis.  This location will help Roxul maintain its growth in key insulation markets such as residential, commercial building, flat roof, and industrial applications, in the mid and southern USA and Mexico.

Andersen Corporation is anticipating an $18 million expansion of its manufacturing facility in Bayport, Minnesota, a move that's expected to add 100 full-time jobs to the local economy.

The project will involve improvements on an existing building at its complex and the purchase of new machinery.

Andersen will also get some help from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), which will award the company $625,000 from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund provided it meets its performance goals.

Bill Adams, founder and chairman of Adams Manufacturing, has been honored with the 2014 Inventor of the Year Award from the Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Law Association (PIPLA).

Adams took home the top honor this year due to his innovations in the design of suction cups, outdoor resin furniture, holiday accessories and other consumer products. It's also a nod to the significant economic impact he has made on the western Pennsylvania region and American manufacturing as a whole.
