Michael Jones comes to the No. 2 home center chain from Husqvarna.

Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe’s has hired Michael Jones as its chief merchandising officer. 

Jones will be responsible for the merchandising offering for Lowe's stores and Lowes.com as well as all global sourcing activities. He will report to chief customer officer Gregory M. Bridgeford.

A canine officer helped capture a suspected thief at a Lowe’s store in Chico, Calif., according to an article in the Chico Enterprise-Record.

A Chico police officer patrolling the area at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, noticed a damaged chain-link fence in the store’s garden center. Merchandise was stacked nearby.

While searching for a permanent CFO, Peabody, Mass.-based Beacon Roofing Supply appointed Rick Welker to the position of acting CFO.

Welker is currently the company's VP and chief accounting officer. He replaces David Grace, who retired a the end of 2012.

Three executives with long tenures retired from Memphis, Tenn.-based Orgill this month: Bill Fondren, Ken Post and Steve East.

Fondren retired as chairman of the board, but he will remain as a board member. Ron Beal will assume the chairman of the board post.

Ken Post was chief merchandise officer, a position to be filled by Brett Hammers. And Steve East was VP advertising. His replacement is Jeff Curler.

Paint manufacturer Valspar has announced that John Wardzel has joined the company as senior VP global operations, reporting to Steven Erdahl, executive VP. In this role, Wardzel will provide executive leadership of Valspar’s global operations and becomes an officer of the company.

Appliance maker Electrolux has hired Stefano Marzano as its chief design officer, a new role at the company. Marzano will lead all design-related competencies in the various business groups.

Marzano, age 62, had a long career at Royal Philips Electronics, working for 20 years as its chief design officer. Until 1998 he was a professor at the Domus Academy in Milan, and also served as a visiting professor at Politecnico did Milano, the polytechnic institute in Milan. Marzano is also the author and editor of several books on design.

Beacon Roofing Supply appointed Rick C. Welker as VP and chief accounting officer effective Nov. 18. 

Welker formerly served as VP and corporate controller and will continue to report to David R. Grace, executive VP and chief financial officer. 

Welker, age 52, is a CPA and CMA and began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers. He joined Beacon in 2004 prior to its IPO and has assisted with the company's substantial growth including many acquisitions, according to the company's statement.

Myrtle Beach, S.C., police arrested a woman at a local Lowe’s store after she was detained by a loss prevention officer with a purse full of power tool accessories, according to a report by WMBF-News.

Manchester, N.H., police are looking for a suspect who pulled an electronic stun gun on a loss prevention officer at a local Home Depot store. The Nov. 9 robbery, reported by WMUR television news, started as a shoplifting incident until the individual -- described as a white man in his 20s, about 5 ft. 9 ins. tall and 160 pounds -- was confronted when leaving the store without paying for two lawnmower engine bands. The merchandise was valued at approximately $150.

Lyski will also be accountable for advancing the Marysville, Ohio-based company's "Consumer First" strategy specifically to maximize opportunities for sustainable brand portfolio and market share growth, along with continuing to build stronger relationships with consumers.

Advertising Age, citing an internal announcement, has reported that VP and chief marketing officer Frank Bifulco has been replaced by former VP advertising Trish Mueller. Bifulco was with the Atlanta retailer for almost three years.

Mueller joined Home Depot in 2009 after serving as senior VP marketing and advertising at Sports Authority and VP advertising at American Signature.

A K-9 officer in pursuit of two suspected shoplifters was able to recover tools stolen from a Lowe’s store in Burlington, N.C., according to a report by the Burlington Police Department.

On Dec. 12 at 4 p.m., a Sears loss prevention officer notified police of a larceny in progress and provided a description of both the suspect and the getaway vehicle, a white Chevrolet Lumina. When police arrived on the scene, they observed the vehicle nearly strike a pedestrian before it left the Sears parking lot and crashed into a tree.
