Kent, Ohio-based Carter Lumber continues down the expansion trail by opening a new location on the north side of Charlotte. 

The facility located at 4401 Pete Brown Rd. in Charlotte made its first deliveries Monday, five days after taking possession.

Kent, Ohio-based Carter Lumber promoted Jeff Donley to the post of president and chief operating officer.

The company also promoted Jeff Seder and Kip Gleckler.

Donley has been with Carter Lumber since 1995 and has served in a variety of management positions, including risk manager, chief financial officer and most recently as senior VP and chief operating officer.

Paint manufacturer Valspar Corp. has appointed John Ballbach, its former president and chief operating officer, to the company’s board of directors. The 52-year-old executive will serve on the board’s nominating and governance and audit committees.

Flooring retailer Lumber Liquidators has announced that Robert Lynch, its current president and chief operating officer, will succeed current CEO Jeffrey Griffiths on Jan. 1, 2012. As part of the company’s succession plan, Griffiths will also retire from the board of directors at the same time.

Milwaukee-based A. O. Smith Corp. has named Ajita Rajendra president and chief operating officer, effective Sept 1.

Rajendra will be responsible for A. O. Smith’s water heater operations in North America, China, Europe and India, as well as the company’s water purification business in China. The $1.5 billion business has 17 manufacturing plants around the world and employs approximately 10,000 people.

He’s the man who runs the stores, and it’s his North Carolinian accent that — for the past 10 years, at least — has grown almost inseparable from the company’s image.

In the 1980s, when Lowe’s decided to change from a chain of southeastern contractor yards to a nationwide big-box retailer, the company knew it wouldn’t happen overnight. But a steady vision, stable leadership and good relations with Wall Street made the goal a reality. Today, the North Carolina-based company has more than 1,725 warehouse-sized stores in all 50 states plus Canada and Mexico. 

Now it’s time for another change.

Orchard Supply Hardware has named retail veteran Mark Baker as its new president and CEO. Baker will replace Robert Lynch, who left last December to take a job as president and chief operating officer at Lumber Liquidators.

Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's announced Friday that Larry Stone, president and chief operating officer, will retire June 2 after more than four decades with the home improvement giant.

Stone has served in virtually every leadership position within store operations and merchandising during his 42-year career with the company, and many credit him for Lowe’s success and rise into the No. 2 position among home-improvement retailers

He will oversee the company's merchandising, supply chain and store operations, including the respective senior VPs of these areas. Lynch, who starts his new position on Jan. 17, 2011, will report directly to CEO Jeffrey Griffiths.
