Caledonia, Wisconsin-based CalStar Products is making its sustainable brick line even more versatile with the addition of six new brick sizes.

The brick offerings are available as follows: Ambassador brick in a 2 1/4" by 15 5/8" size; Roman brick in 3 5/8" by 1 5/8" by 11 5/8"; Norman brick in 3 5/8" by 2 1/4" by 11 5/8"; King brick in 2 3/4" by 2 5/8" by 9 5/8"; and 8x16 and 4x16 facing units.

Both the Ambassador bricks and the facing units are available smooth or as a split-face unit.

Mebane, N.C.-based Walter Kidde Portable Equipment Inc. is recalling its Kidde-branded smoke and combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, citing a tendency for the alarms to malfunction in the wake of a power outage.

Affected units include Kidde residential smoke alarm model i12010S (manufactured between Dec. 18, 2013 and May 13, 2014); combination smoke/CO alarm il2010SCO (manufactured between Dec. 30, 2013 and May 13, 2014); and combination smoke/CO alarm model KN-COSM-IBA (manufactured between Oct. 22, 2013 and May 13, 2014).

Oakland, California-based Feeney, Inc., a manufacturer of cable railing assemblies, aluminum railings, and architectural solutions for residential and commercial buildings expanded its presence in the Eastern United States.

The new dishwasher uses Jenn-Air's Trifecta Wash System, a combination of alternating wash cycles, three-stage filtration, a variable speed motor and pressurized wash arms.

The new Hammer Driver-Drill offers a full 1,090 in.-lbs. of torque, the most in the category, the company says, and is powered by the new Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion 4.0Ah battery for longer run time and the industry's fastest charge time.

Starborn Industries has introduced the Deckfast Fascia System to the market, a fastening system designed to hold deck fascia boards together.

Aimed at solving the pain point of expansion and contraction, the Deckfast Fascia System is comprised of a pre-drilling and countersinking tool and color-matched stainless steel or epoxy-coated carbon steel screws.

An over-sized hole is created for the Fascia Screw, allowing the board to experience dimensional changes by "floating" along the deck's rim joist and taking pressure off the fastener.

Atlanta, Georgia-based Levolor is adding to its Accordia Custom Cellular Shade product offerings, which hit Lowe's shelves exclusively on Aug. 28 and are due in other nationwide home improvement retail stores Oct. 1.

The Accordia portfolio, which currently spans more than 200 styles, will be expanded further with new color and fabric swatches.

New to the crop are the Heathered and Tree Bark collections, which feature hues such as buttercream, light fog, cherry blossom, marine, amethyst and bayleaf.

The release of the new Dremel Micro 8050 is being hailed as more than just a run-of-the-mill product launch. According to the Mount Prospect, Illinois-based company, the 8050 is "the most powerful and precise compact cordless rotary tool Dremel has yet to produce."

Houston, Texas-based Goodman Company is recalling about 233,500 units of its Amana, Century, Comfort-Aire, Goodman and York International Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner/Heat Pump (“PTAC”) units.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the power cords on the units have displayed a tendency to overheat, creating burn and fire hazards.

So far, there have been five reports of the power cords smoking or catching fire, though no injuries have been reported as of yet.

Composite Panel Building Systems (CPBS) has introduced Composite Structural Insulated Sheathing (C-SIS) to the market, a new eco-friendly fully composite sheathing for residential applications.

According to the company, C-SIS gets its energy-efficiency chops thanks to its fiberglass reinforced thermoset skin, which is bonded to the polyurethane foam insulation for added durability. The result is uninterrupted insulation, robust structural integrity, water-resistance and air-tight performance without the need for house wrap.

In advance of new federal efficiency standards for dryers set to take effect in 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has handed the 2014 Energy Star Emerging Technology Award over to LG Electronics for its new EcoHybrid Heat Pump Dryer.

The EcoHybrid is described as the first dryer with heat pump technology to hit the market in the U.S., meaning it captures and recycles energy that's generated during the drying cycle. This translates to up to 50% more energy savings, according to third-party testing.

SolarWorld, the Camarillo, California-based subsidiary of Germany-based SolarWorld AG, recalled certain solar systems with copper grounding lugs.

SolarWorld solar panels installed with bare-copper grounding lugs can corrode which could result in a faulty ground circuit, posing an electric shock, electrocution or fire hazard, according to the recall announcement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. 

The firm has received one report of corrosion related to the bare copper lugs. No injuries have been reported.

The new Profile series of freestanding ranges from GE will allow homeowners to turn the oven on in between games of Candy Crush, among other things.

The Wi-Fi-enabled series of gas and electric ranges can be controlled remotely by the GE Brillion smartphone app.

“We’re expanding our line of connected appliances to make life easier while you’re on the go,” GE Product Manager Jonathan Sprigler said. “Consumers expect more things to be accessible through their phones, and GE is enabling them to have the control they want.”

Haier America announced Paul Riley has been appointed VP sales and marketing for major appliances.

Riley will be accountable for the creation and exectuion of the go-to-market strategy for all categories, the company announced.

Riley has held many sales and marketing roles throughout his 15-year career with GE Appliances, where he most recently worked as senior brand and product line marketing manager. He also led GE's efforts to redefine the Monogram brand through a preferred builder program, a consumer facing rebate program and brand distribution strategy.
