WindowTex is recalling a number of its custom roller window shades, citing a risk of injury related to a steel pin inserted in the idler on the shades.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the pin has displayed a tendency to become dislodged, which causes the shade to fall from the mounting bracket.

So far, there have been six reports of the pins becoming dislodged, though no injuries have been reported.

DeWalt's new Premium Tapes are "Guaranteed Tough" to withstand harsh jobsite conditions -- perfect for heavy-duting framing and other construction measuring tasks.

The tape measures are available in 16', 25' and 35' sizes and feature a reinforced housing and cast metal impact plate to absorb shocks.

Rubber over-molding covers add an extra layer of grip, and a five-screw design adds to its overall drop resistance.

Starborn Industries has introduced the Deckfast Fascia System to the market, a fastening system designed to hold deck fascia boards together.

Aimed at solving the pain point of expansion and contraction, the Deckfast Fascia System is comprised of a pre-drilling and countersinking tool and color-matched stainless steel or epoxy-coated carbon steel screws.

An over-sized hole is created for the Fascia Screw, allowing the board to experience dimensional changes by "floating" along the deck's rim joist and taking pressure off the fastener.

US LBM Holdings has expanded its footprint yet again via the acquisition of Brooklyn-based Samuel Feldman Lumber Co.

Owners Robert and Kenneth Feldman will remain on-board, with Kenneth stepping in as president of Feldman Lumber.

One of these includes the first-ever pocket knife from DeWalt, a folding model featuring a stainless steel blade that's designed for on-the-job tasks like removing strapping from lumber. The knife, which features a combination straight and serrated edge, hit shelves this July.

In their latest round of back-to-back earnings call presentations, Home Depot and Lowe’s trotted out statistics for a weather-beaten first quarter, along with insights on what worked and what didn’t.

Michael Jones stepped into the role of Lowe’s chief customer officer by stepping up to the microphone. Jones, who replaced the retiring Greg Bridgeford earlier this year, walked analysts and investors through Lowe’s performance, which saw a comp-store sales increase of 0.9%.

The shoemaker of the FBI announced an expanded line of job-ready boots.

Portland, Ore.-based Magnum’s new “Work” collection consists of 6- and 8-in. lace-up boots, rugged pull-ons and mid and low hiker styles. 

The collection consists of steel and composite safety toe styles, Goodyear welt, direct attach or cement construction options, which are all backed by the Magnum 60-day comfort guarantee.

Steel toe work boots from Red Wing Shoes are being recalled for lack of protection.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commision, the steel toe cap in the boots could fail to protect the wearer’s feet in case of impact. 

No incidents or injuries were reported. 

Manufactured in the United States, the product was sold at retailers from October 2012 through November 2013 for \ $185 to $340.

A new Fall Houzz Kitchen Remodeling Survey demonstrated that open-concept kitchens are trending this year, though homeowners aren't necessarily looking for increased square footage.

Of the 7,500 Houzz users surveyed who are planning a kitchen remodel, only a third are expanding, though three-quarters are opening up their kitchens, and 3-in-5 are incorporating kitchen islands.

An overwhelming number of respondents (94%) also said they were changing their countertops, with granite and quartz being the popular choices (86%).

The makers of a corrugated stainless steel tubing product are celebrating a recent court victory.

After a lightning strike set fire to a High Ridge, Mo., house in April 2010, the homeowners' insurance company, American Automobile Insurance Co. (AAIC), sued Exton, Pa.-based OmegaFlex. The suit alleged that lightning burned a hole through the OmegaFlex TracPipe corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST) and caused a fire.

Court papers show that the plaintiff was looking for a $1 million payout, plus court costs. The jury didn't buy it.

Jenn-Air is highlighting the advantages of having an additional under-counter refigerator with a new collection of said appliances.

The refrigerators aim to promote an upscale, flush design for any range of applications, up to and including wine cellars, beverage centers, under-counter refrigerators, double refrigerator drawers and refrigerator/freezer drawers.

All refrigerators come in 24-inch width sizing with a soft-close feature. Customers can choose from styles ranging from stainless steel to custom finish.

A graduate of Purdue University, Garrison has previously served the steel and advertising industries with his marketing strategy, copywriting and marketing collateral design skills. His position at Snavely will mark his entry into the specialty building products industry.

Consumer Reports has given its No. 1 ranking and “Best Buy” rating to Bosch dishwashers in its most recent edition. Six models of the German-engineered appliances were featured on the magazine’s recommended list.

Bosch entered the dishwasher market in 1991. The Irvine, Calif.-based manufacturer makes an assortment of models that range from an all-plastic tub to a fully featured stainless steel tub.
