DeWalt is back this season with a bevy of new tools designed to tackle common pain points around the job sitie, including several new products just released this summer.

One of these includes the first-ever pocket knife from DeWalt, a folding model featuring a stainless steel blade that's designed for on-the-job tasks like removing strapping from lumber. The knife, which features a combination straight and serrated edge, hit shelves this July.

CertainTeed’s volatile organic compound (VOC) scavenging drywall line — the AirRenew IAQ Gypsum Board product family — has been officially designated as a HOLMES Approved Product.

Stud sensors and electronic scanners — two still-evolving technologies that use radar to locate objects behind or embedded in materials — can help, but their ability to identify wood and metal framing, electrical wiring, broken or lost parts, misplaced tools, and other critically important objects is limited.

Fortunately, there's another category of electronic tools that can actually see into closed cavities.

Dubbed “Project Community,” the event aims to empower local residents with the know-how and confidence to tackle basic water damage restoration projects.

San Diego -- “Big Data,” and what to do with it, was a recurring topic at the Teradata Partners User Group Conference, held here from Oct. 2 to 5.  Retailers, insurance companies, telecom firms, banks and others looking for best practices in data warehousing and optimization were among the 3,500 attendees at the San Diego Convention Center. With so many challenges facing IT professionals --everything from geomarketing to capturing tweets inside a data warehouse -- participants focused on collaboration and learning from each other’s mistakes and successes.

An article in Consumer Reports highlighting Home Safety Month listed the top injuries that occur to homeowners doing home repairs, remodeling, yard work and other projects. Citing statistics from the Home Safety Council, the magazine reported that one in five consumers will need medical attention this year, as 43 million homeowners tackle 57 million home improvement projects.
