USG Corporation's Auburn, Wa., manufacturing plant has earned a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star from the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and its Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

L&I officials presented the award, which is the highest accolade within the VPP, to the plant's 49 employees Thursday. The Star, which has only been awarded to approximately 2,500 worksites out of 8 million in the U.S., recognizes the company's efforts to go above and beyond with its safety and health programs.

In a town called Gypsum, Ohio, a USG Corp. manufacturing plant has been awarded the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star.

OSHA officials presented the award on Mon. during a ceremony at the plant, where USG Gypsum's 230 employees were present.

USG Corp. has achieved the prestigious Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star designation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at its Galena Park, Texas, manufacturing plant. Officials from OSHA presented the award on Nov. 29 to USG Galena Park’s 150 employees during a ceremony at the plant.

Home improvement retailer Lowe’s is moving ahead with its Canadian expansion, planning a new store for Blairmore, a city near Saskatoon, according to an article in the Star Phoenix. The will be Lowe’s second store in the western province of Saskatchewan.

Menards is planning to build a 300,000-sq.-ft. project in Richfield, a suburb of Minneapolis, to replace an existing unit, according to an article in the Star-Tribune.

The new two-story building, along with a lumberyard, garden center and warehouse, would require the demolition of the current store, along with a vacant restaurant called Jung Bo.

According to an article in the Star Tribune, a Minnesota scientist has developed a pesticide that works its way up through the roots of a plant to protect it from deer and other animals.

Because the pesticide product is weather-resistant, the company that licensed the product calls it a "game-changing" technology, according to the article.
