Brentwood, Tennessee-based Tractor Supply Co. plans to open two pet-focused stores under the new “HomeTown Pet” brand.

The new pet supply retail concepts operated by Tractor Supply Company will open in mid November in Franklin and Fairview, cities within close proximity to the company’s headquarters.

The International Housewares Association, the Rosemont, Illinois-based trade group for the housewares industry, announced that Dave Elliott, general manager, KitchenAid Global Small Appliances has been elected IHA chairman of the board.

Elliott joined Whirlpool Corp. in February 2009. Whirlpool is the parent company of KitchenAid and the largest manufacturer of major and small appliances in the world. Before joining Whirlpool, he worked for Jarden Corp. from 1997 to 2009, where he was VP of global marketing with responsibility for personal comfort and wellness products.

A recent survey from the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) found nearly half of all infestations happen in the fall and winter months. In the Northeast, 35% of survey respondents reported a rodent infestation last year, the highest percentage in any geographic area.

The company’s increasing level of inventory is being established to directly support special order business for The Home Depot retail locations active in the Northeast, and advanced framing lumber and panel products commonly used by Modular Home factories in and around the region, the company said.

The latest report from Wood Resource Quarterly points to a busy six months for the softwood lumber trade, with global shipments up 7% year-over-year in the first half of 2014.

Also indicated is an increase in shipments for most of the major exporting countries (with the exception of New Zealand). Roughly one-third of the global lumber output is traded internationally.
